Senior Windows Systems Engineer
Employee Role, Hybrid NYC

RedStream Technology is searching for an experienced Windows Systems Engineer with experience working with both on-prem environments and AWS to join our professional services client in downtown Manhattan.

The Senior Windows Systems Engineer ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of in-house and cloud-based information systems that support core organizational functions. This individual applies proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to lead the design, deployment, and troubleshooting of complex Windows server environments.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Infrastructure Management: Lead the management and maintenance of Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022+), ensuring high availability, security, and performance tuning.
  • Storage Platform (s) administration: Support Multiple on prem. Solutions ranging from Dell power scale to Vsan
  • Messaging Infrastructure Management: Optimize and support the Exchange messaging Infrastructure
  • Cloud & Virtualization: Administer and support hybrid cloud deployments and virtualization technologies, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Azure, and AWS platforms.
  • Directory Services: Implement, monitor, and manage Microsoft Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), Group Policy Objects (GPO), DNS, and DHCP services.
  • Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools, primarily using PowerShell, to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Project Leadership: Design, architect, and manage new projects and deployments, including system upgrades, migrations, and enhancements, collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure systems are compliant with internal policies and external regulations, implementing security controls, monitoring logs, and participating in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Serve as a final escalation point (Tier 3/4 support) for complex incidents, performing root cause analysis to remediate recurring issues.
  • Documentation & Mentorship: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and diagrams, while mentoring and guiding junior systems administrators.
  • Collaboration: Work with vendors, outsourcers, and internal teams to secure system-related products and services and align solutions with business requirements.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) is preferred.

Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in a Systems Administrator or Systems Engineer role within an enterprise environment.

Technical Expertise:

  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and related Microsoft technologies (Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server).
  • Strong proficiency in virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Comprehensive understanding of PowerShell scripting and automation best practices.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, and security principles.

Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and complex problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are highly valued.
