Systems Engineer
Contract role, Hybrid, Elmwood Park, NJ]

RedStream Technology is searching for a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to join our client’s infrastructure & operations team. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in virtualization, systems administration, cloud technologies, storage solutions, and networking. This individual will play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and scaling our IT infrastructure while ensuring high availability, security, and performance across critical business systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, patch and support enterprise-level virtualization platforms, including VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain enterprise storage solutions (Pure Storage, Dell Compellent, and related SAN/NAS technologies).
  • Manage and administer Active Directory (user management, group policies, authentication, federation, and security).
  • Administer and optimize Azure cloud environments, including IaaS, PaaS, and hybrid integrations.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, troubleshoot issues, and provide tier-3 escalation support for complex incidents.
  • Collaborate with network and security teams on infrastructure projects, including firewalls, routing, and DNS/DHCP integrations.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution to ensure business continuity.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of infrastructure designs, configurations, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or similar IT infrastructure role.
  • Strong expertise in VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
  • Practical experience with enterprise storage systems (Pure Storage, Dell Compellent preferred).
  • Understanding of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, VPNs).
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory design, GPOs, and security hardening.
  • Practical experience managing Azure cloud services (VMs, networking, backups, identity management).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Certifications (nice to have)

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or higher
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  • Pure Storage or Dell Compellent certifications
  • ITIL Foundation
