You will be based in one of our client’s North American offices as part of Publishing & Marketing. This is a global team of more than 100 editors, producers, and digital media experts who work with authors to develop and publish distinctive content across a growing number of digital, print, audio, and video platforms.

You will join their Audience Development team and work closely with the Head of Search & Discovery, alongside members of the core Publishing team, the Technology & Development, Brand, Paid Media, and other communications teams and professionals to establish thought leadership and connect with readers and clients through traditional and AI-powered search channels.

As the SEO & GEO Specialist, you will be a key player in supporting and executing our client's search and discovery strategy to improve the visibility of our content, grow our audience, and ensure our program adapts to shifts in search and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).

 Responsibilities:

  • Content Optimization: Perform priority article optimizations, including keyword research, title, and meta description suggestions, along with image/video optimization and internal linking strategies. Provide pre-article SEO and GEO recommendations to editors and content creators to inform content development and address the search intent of target audiences.
  • Technical SEO & Auditing: Conduct quarterly technical SEO audits to monitor site health and identify opportunities for enhancement (e.g., improving Core Web Vitals). Assist in technical troubleshooting and work with technology teams to implement SEO and GEO best practices.
  • Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): Develop and implement strategies for optimizing content for Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative search experiences. Track the impact and evolution of generative AI on search and establish GEO best practices. Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and analyze site search performance using tools like Google Search Console, Adobe Analytics, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, and Profound. Develop and maintain dashboards to communicate SEO/GEO performance to key stakeholders. Perform competitive analysis and trend analysis to identify content gaps and opportunities.
  • Strategy & Collaboration: Participate in weekly SEO/GEO meetings to discuss priorities, performance, and strategy. Support ad-hoc strategic projects, such as internal linking initiatives, testing new AI search strategies, building optimization agents, and evaluating new technologies and tactics. Help educate and empower content creators and editors on SEO/GEO best practices through training and process implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-5+ years of professional experience as an SEO practitioner, either in-house at a large publication or in an agency setting.
  • Technical SEO Skills: Deep understanding of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and technical SEO.
  • Analytics Proficiency: Adept at working with best-in-class analytics and SEO platforms, including Google Search Console, Adobe Analytics, and tools such as SEMrush, Screaming Frog, and Profound.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to analyze and synthesize data into clear, actionable insights for editors, content creators, and leadership.
  • Project Management: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Emerging Trends: A keen interest in and understanding of the latest search trends, particularly in GEO and AI's impact on search.
  • Agentic AI: Experience with building and utilizing AI agents and platforms (e.g, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini etc.) to streamline SEO/GEO workflows.
  • Collaboration: A positive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently and engage confidently with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency and fluency in verbal and written English is required, other language skills are a plus.
  • Confidence in interactions with senior staff and SMEs and strong ability to achieve consensus across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to challenge client service content based on industry knowledge
