Monitoring Engineer ScienceLogic
Contract Role (some travel - approx. 1 week every other month)

Own and advance ScienceLogic-based monitoring environment primarily focused on a large scale VMware → Red Hat OpenShift migration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary owner for ScienceLogic within the team.
- Configure, maintain, and optimize ScienceLogic to monitor:
- Virtualized services
- Underlying infrastructure
- Implement and tune:
- Metrics, thresholds, and alerting
- Dashboards and reports for operations teams
- Continuously update and refresh monitoring configurations as platforms and services evolve (continuous update/refresh model).
- Collaborate with the migration engineer to ensure:
- New OpenShift-based services are properly monitored.
- Legacy VMware services remain visible during transition.
- Create documentation for monitoring standards, configurations, and operational use.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and training of operations teams on monitoring practices and tools.
- Support operational readiness by ensuring robust visibility into performance, availability, and incidents.
Required Technical Skills:
- ScienceLogic (primary for this role)
- Hands-on experience implementing or managing ScienceLogic for enterprise environments.
- Virtualization awareness: Understanding of virtualized infrastructure concepts and components (hypervisors, VMs, services).
- Ability to translate infrastructure and applications into sensible monitoring constructs.
- General Linux/Infrastructure knowledge: Comfort working around Linux-based systems and infrastructure used in large enterprises.
- Monitoring & observability
- Strong background with monitoring concepts: KPIs, SLAs, alert design, noise reduction, dashboards.
- Documentation & process
- Ability to write clear operational documentation and monitoring standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Exposure to Red Hat OpenShift and/or VMware environments (even if not the primary specialty).
- Prior experience supporting platform migrations from a monitoring perspective.
- Familiarity with other monitoring or APM tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, etc.).
