In celebration of the women who have helped shape industries that were once heavily male-dominated, we sat down with Sioux Logan, Founder and CEO of RedStream Technology, to talk about how she entered the tech recruiting world, what helped her build credibility early in her career, and the leadership qualities she believes women uniquely bring to the technology space.

Sioux has spent more than two decades in the industry and founded RedStream Technology after building a successful career working for other organizations. Her story is equal parts practical, inspiring, and refreshingly honest.

What initially drew you to this industry?

I actually can’t say that I was initially drawn to the industry, I sort of tripped into it.

My mother told me I needed to find a job that had medical insurance. She was very serious about it. Her reasoning was something like, “If you get hit by a bus, I’m not losing my house over it,” which definitely made the point pretty clear.

So I started looking for jobs that offered benefits and ended up working at a firm that placed recruiters and sales professionals into IT staffing companies. Once I started talking to candidates and clients in the technology space, something clicked for me.

I loved it.

I loved having conversations with people about their careers, learning what motivated them, and understanding what they were trying to achieve in life. I also found the technology side of the business fascinating. Every conversation introduced me to something new, new tools, new projects, new challenges.

What started as a practical job quickly turned into a career that I truly enjoyed, and eventually it led me to start my own company.

What advice would you give your younger self entering a male-dominated space?

I would tell my younger self that preparation is everything.

When you’re working in a male-dominated industry, especially early in your career, you need to be extremely well prepared. You need to have done your research, understand the industry you’re working in, and always be a step ahead.

Early in my career, I was making cold calls into large technology organizations, and I quickly realized that if I wanted to be taken seriously, I needed to understand the technology and the businesses I was calling.

People could tell they were speaking with a young woman, and that meant I had to prove that I understood what they were working on. Being polished and professional mattered, but what mattered even more was being knowledgeable.

That meant constantly learning, studying the technologies my clients were using, and understanding how their businesses operated. The more prepared you are, the more confident you become, and that confidence makes a big difference in how people respond to you.

How did you build credibility in rooms where you were the only woman?

Credibility starts with doing your homework.

Before meeting with anyone, I made sure I had researched the company, the person I was meeting with, and the technologies they were working with. Preparation always gives you a strong starting point.

But another huge piece of building credibility is learning how to ask the right questions, especially when you don’t know something.

Technology is constantly changing. There are always new tools, new systems, and new projects emerging, and no one can possibly know everything. I’ve been in many situations where a client started listing technologies I had never heard of before.

Instead of pretending to know exactly what they meant, I learned to ask questions like:

“Tell me what this person would actually be doing every day.”
“What does this technology support in your environment?”
“What problem are you trying to solve with this role?”

Those questions helped clients move away from technical jargon and explain their needs more clearly. The more they explained, the more I learned.

Over time, that approach helped me build a deeper understanding of technology stacks and business operations. Asking thoughtful questions has honestly been one of the most powerful tools in my career.

It’s probably been my secret sauce for surviving in an industry that is constantly evolving.

What leadership qualities do you think women uniquely bring to tech/tech recruiting?

One thing I’ve consistently observed is that women often bring a strong ability to listen deeply.

We don’t just listen to what someone is saying, we also listen for the underlying motivations behind it. When clients are hiring someone, they need that person to succeed. There is usually a project deadline, a business goal, or a team challenge driving that hiring decision.

Women often have a strong ability to hear those nuances and understand what is really motivating someone’s decisions.

That ability to understand people on a deeper level is incredibly valuable in recruiting and leadership.

I also think women often bring patience to the growth process. When you hire someone new, they need time to ramp up and learn the role. No one walks into a job on day one and knows everything.

But in many organizations, people expect immediate results.

Strong leaders understand that building success takes time. They give people the space to learn, grow, and become confident in their roles.

I also believe women tend to be strong relationship builders. Taking the time to understand clients and colleagues beyond just the immediate project allows you to build trust and long-term partnerships.

And those relationships ultimately lead to better hiring decisions and stronger teams.

Final Thoughts

Sioux Logan’s career is a powerful reminder that sometimes the best opportunities start unexpectedly. What began as a practical job search turned into a decades-long career helping companies build strong technology teams and helping professionals grow their careers.

Her approach, preparation, curiosity, strong listening skills, and a commitment to relationships, continues to shape RedStream Technology today.

And as the technology industry continues to evolve, those qualities remain just as valuable as ever. Want to hear more from Sioux? Connect with her on LinkedIn!
